How not to make polymer clay flowers, and how to make some simple ones. Learn from my mistakes!

This video is more of what NOT to do when making flowers this way. I've been very torn on whether to post this or not. I'm sure I'll have some dislikes but it'll be ok. This is more less for people that want to learn from my mistakes. Yes there are people everywhere on yt making proper flowers, but not many showing the mistakes along the way. Welcome to todays video! Sorry for the delay in uploading lately. Finishing up this school semester has me a little preoccupied at the moment. But it'll be finished soon, thank goodness! Anyways, I'm using premo clay, as usual, and just doing what you see in the video. Nothing too special to explain here. The only advice I'd give is to set aside ample time. It's a bit of a process. This is amazing, thank you. Quick question, at the end when you were putting the earrings together, you used a set of pliers that seemed to make the loop and cut the wire, can you tell me what these are called please? I have tried so many times to master this and fail every time, these would be a life saver. Many thanks. Amanda 😍

    What kind of clay is this? I’m sorry if that’s a silly question, I’ve just never worked with it before. Also, once dried, could I mix this with quick Crete to make planters in a mold?

    • @MixinMadness
      @MixinMadness 3 роки тому

      This was made with polymer clay, sculpy 3, I don't use it now because it's not meant for jewelry, I was still learning here. I would think you could use polymer clay, I use sculpy premo now, just bake a sheet of it, cut it up(good clay bends), and then add it to the quick crete. I don't see what it'd hurt. However, I haven't tried this. But if I was going to, that's how I'd do it.

      I'd imagine so. You would need to research the thicknesses it would need and such or just do it with trial and error. It really depends on what it will be used for.

    • @MixinMadness
      @MixinMadness 4 роки тому

      Hi Fiona! I dip everything in corn starch before using it so it doesn't stick to the clay. I have since stopped using it because I have better tools and clay now. But if there ever comes a time where I might need it, I have it handy. At the end when I'm sanding, I'm just dipping them in water to try and keep the dust down. It also helps the paper glide across the pieces. Some people use water with a drop of soap in it, but I haven't needed to do that so far. Thanks for watching!

    Everyone swears by polyurethane so I have a question, what brand and type of polyurethane did you use? Trying to decipher why it turned your pieces yellow. Was it oil based, water based and was it gloss or semi gloss etc? Was it perhaps an old can? I have read that amazon will sometimes sell you old polyurethane. Thank you for the video on this technique.

    • @MixinMadness
      @MixinMadness 4 роки тому

      It was a new can of minwax polyurethane from a local store, glossy, oil based I do believe and I'm pretty sure that's what caused it to turn yellow. The color of the liquid had a slight yellow look to it in the can, the correct one you are supposed to use should be white in the can. I now use polycrylic and it works perfect. Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any other questions I might can help with! :)

    I've seen many people use a damp paper towel and I too have tried it and it worked well for me.... Thanks for sharing your test
